Hello, my name is Christine Chellino and I am so excited to be teaching second grade this year!
This is my 23rd year of teaching and my fourth year at Pioneer.
As part of my teaching philosophy, I am a firm believer in teaching the whole child. Teaching students skills such as kindness, empathy, perseverance, and resilience are just as important as teaching them to read and write. I also believe that the connection between home and school are very important..
I love spending time at home with my family. In addition to our two fur babies, my husband and I have a beautiful baby girl. She is an absolute joy. I am sure I will be sharing many stories about her throughout the year!
If you ever need to reach me please feel free to email me. I will do my best to answer any questions or concerns within 24 hours of receiving your email. Thank you for your cooperation and support. We are going to have a great year!
My name is Lori Peterson and I am thrilled to be teaching 2nd grade again this year. This will be my 11th year in this grade level at Pioneer. I originally come from the high desert in Southern California and having been teaching a total twenty-five years. Before second grade, I taught mainly 4th-6th grades.
I live in Auburn and when I’m not teaching, I like to spend my time outdoors. My favorite activities are hiking, backpacking, kayaking, and riding my bike. I like to bring some of my love of the outdoors into the classroom with special focus on plants and animals native to California. We do research, writing, and special projects related to those topics.
Our reading focus this year will continue to be decoding, comprehension, and fluency. In writing, we are working on writing complete sentences and paragraphs in the three genres: narrative, informational, and persuasive. We will also continue working on writing mechanics such as capitalization and punctuation. Our math focus is number sense: adding/subtracting up to three digits with regrouping. We also work on time, money, and geometric shapes later in the year.
If you’d like to chat about your child’s progress in second grade, please call, email, or stop in after school. My door is always open.
My name is Alana Thomson and I'm your child's second grade teacher. I have been teaching Kindergarten, first, and second grades for 30+ years. One of the great things about teaching young children is that there is something new every day--those little minds keep you guessing!
If you need to contact me, I can be reached on the school phone, 566-1940 and you can leave me a voicemail if I'm not available. I also check email daily and my address is firstname.lastname@example.org. You can also email me on this website and it will be forwarded to my Twin Rivers email as well.
I look forward to a great school year with your child. It truly does take a village and I'm pleased to be a part of your child's life.
