My name is Laura Pavlos and I teach transitional kindergarten (TK) here at Pioneer School.  I have been teaching for 37 years, most of them right here at Pioneer!  Along with TK, I have also taught kindergarten, 1st grade, and 2nd grade.  I absolutely LOVE teaching our school’s littlest learners, watching how quickly they grow and learn throughout the year.  Another really awesome part of my job is that my sister, Mrs. Appledoorn, teaches kindergarten right next door to me!

Although I consider my students to be my children, I also have two grown sons.  My oldest lives here in Sacramento, and my youngest is going to school at UCSF in the dental program.  My husband and I also have some 4-legged children at home…3 cats.  I enjoy reading, baking, going to the movies, and cheering on my favorite team (win or lose), the San Francisco Giants. 

Of course, my very favorite thing to do is to teach!  I can’t imagine doing any other job.  I’m so very lucky to be doing what I love.

Hello! 

My name is Renee Castro and I am excited to teach the "Fin"Tastic Dolphin Kindergarten Class with our wonderful Kindergarten Team here at Pioneer School!  I have taught Kindergarten and First Grade for 30 years and I enjoy watching the children grow both academically and socially!   Our class is located in room 21.  When I am not teaching, I am busy with my amazing family, dog and horse. I definitely enjoy my outdoor time!

Hello, I'm Robin Nahhas. I have lived in Sacramento for 29 years. I grew up in Modesto, California. I went to college at CSU Northridge in Los Angeles. This will be my 28th year teaching in the Rio Linda and Twin Rivers Unified School District. I have taught every grade from 2nd to 6th grade. This will be my 8th year teaching at Pioneer Elementary, and I am so lucky to be working at this wonderful school!
 
I have been married to my husband, Jay, for almost 15 years. We have 2 sweet dogs named Rocco and Murphy. I adore them, however, they are very naughty, and my students will hear a lot of stories about them throughout the year.
 
I have a Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in technology. Every student in my classroom will have their own Chromebook to use this year. We will be using a lot of technology tools in order to create 21st century learners!
 
I am truly looking forward to teaching all of my amazing kindergartners! I believe that every child can learn and has the right to a safe and caring classroom. I think this is going to be great year full of fun and learning!

Hi families!

Welcome to the Safari Pals Class! My name is Amy Rivas and I am your child's Kindergarten teacher this year! This is my eighth year teaching at Pioneer and I’m proud to be a Panther! I’m married and have an eight year old daughter. As a family we enjoy baking, going to the park, watching movies, reading books, and making slime. Over the summer I took up a new hobby of refinishing furniture. I take old, ugly furniture and make it new again. It’s been a lot of fun!

We have an exciting year of learning ahead and I'm looking forward to a fantastic year!
