My name is Lori Peterson and I am thrilled to be teaching 2nd grade again this year. This will be my 8th year in this grade level at Pioneer. I originally come from the high desert in Southern California and having been teaching a total twenty-two years. Before second grade, I taught mainly 4th-6th grades.
I live in Auburn and when I’m not teaching, I like to spend my time outdoors. My favorite activities are hiking, backpacking, kayaking, and riding my bike. I like to bring some of my love of the outdoors into the classroom with special focus on plants and animals native to California. We do research, writing, and special projects related to those topics.
Our reading focus this year will continue to be decoding, comprehension, and fluency. In writing, we are working on writing complete sentences and paragraphs in the three genres: narrative, informational, and persuasive. We will also continue working on writing mechanics such as capitalization and punctuation. Our math focus is number sense: adding/subtracting up to three digits with regrouping. We also work on time, money, and geometric shapes later in the year.
If you’d like to chat about your child’s progress in second grade, please call, email, or stop in after school. My door is always open.
Hi, my name is Alicia Todd and this is my 20th year of teaching. This is my sixth year at Pioneer and I absolutely love teaching here. I enjoy the relationships that I have started building with the students and families here at Pioneer. I have taught Kindergarten, First, Second, and now Fourth grade. I have been married for 17 years and have two beautiful daughters. Isabella is 16 yrs old and Jillian is 12. I love teaching, but when I am not, I LOVE to read, cook, travel, and spend time with my family. It is my goal as your child's teacher to inspire him/her to extraordinary achievement every day and help them become the best at what they do both socially and academically.
